canstock0179531 Socialist antics & chicken salad

By Bob Jentges (Editor Emeritus, Clarion Advisory) 3-31-12

I have been following the socialist antics of the far left progressives, and their stenographers in the mainstream media, long enough that almost nothing they do or say surprises me.

True to form, when the oral arguments (relating to the constitutionality of the individual mandate in Obamacare) did not go well for them Tuesday, the progressives attacked their own messenger i.e. the Solicitor General, Donald Verrilli.  I listened to the audio replay and read the transcript of the proceedings.  Certainly Mr. Verrilli had some difficulty with the questioning from many of the justices—but consider what he had to work with.  In defense of Mr. Verrilli, I say you can’t make chicken salad out of chicken s**t!

And now some prominent Democrats and many of the print and TV pundits/sympathizers are spinning, in light of the strong probability the individual mandate could  very well be held unconstitutional, have the barefaced audacity to come out with the preposterous argument that a loss in the Supreme Court helps Democrats and puts them in a better position for re-election.

If the Democrats really think losing their first legislative initiative after the 2008 elections—ahead of jobs, energy, etc.,—which all of them voted for even though it was and still is unpopular with a significant majority of the people and which the Court might find an unconstitutional overreach of federal authority helps them, they must be delusional!

Although Tuesday’s oral arguments give me reason to be cautiously optimistic that the founder’s principle of limited federal government will stand, I recognize the final outcome is still in doubt.  But my reaction to the rationalization of some prominent Democrats and some in the mainstream reminds me of Justice Scalia’s remark during the proceedings: “We’re not stupid.”
